Greetings myArmoury,
Presenting the finished gallery of the Albion Ljubljana scabbard commission. This scabbard is based on the more elaborate 15th century builds, which often feature a rather decorative set of metalwork. With the request of building a very decorative scabbard I tried to come up with an original design that suited the region where the original sword was found, based on art I could find, along with architecture of the period. Feel free to comment and or ask any questions you may have. More and larger images can be found here, on my website; http://www.dbkcustomswords.com

You are killing it with these Ljubljana builds Brian! Awesome. On that day I get mine, it will move on to you for a scabbard. Personally I like the earlier one you made a little more but that is a personal taste. This one has incredibly beautiful colors and themes, and metal work is great.
That belt man....wow!

Thank you very much. I very much appreciate the opportunity to get to do these types of scabbard builds. It’s such an honor really.
Do you have a Ljubljana on the way my friend, or is it on the wishlist?
Ljubljana is still on the wish list for me, however...
I just this weekend put a down payment on an Earl :D so we should talk!

Oh my word... that's lovely. Just incredible!!
Would you be willing to answer a couple questions about your craft?
Specifically -
- Do you do the leather tooling before or after you mount the leather to the scabbard? If after, do you need to do anything special to keep the pressures of tooling from collapsing in the scabbard?
- What manner of tool do you use to get that medievally "pebble" background effect? Is is a single circle-stamp of some kind used over and over, or more like a modern background tool with different design?
Thank you - and I understand if you've got to keep trade secrets. :)

Thank you. Without getting into specifics, I tool the leather off of the wood core. For the dimple tooling, each dimple is individually stamped. I find the randomness of a single dimple has a an appealing aesthetic look versus some dimple tools that have multiple dimples done in one stamp which creates a pattern that often draws the eye away (not in a good way). So it takes more time, but yes, single stamp. As for the tool, I found that a good ol' nail setter works perfect.
Beautiful -
That Ljubljana pommel cries out for something to be engraved on it.

Brian, that's breathtaking!
May I ask how much time you put into it?
Cheers to the lucky owner.

Thank you. The pommel could use a little decor I suppose. All that space to work with...

Thank you. There are some things I track the time for and other things I do not that have fixed pricing. So I couldn't say exactly how long if I wanted to, but I know that I worked on it off and on over the course of 2 months (beginning of July and finished at the beginning of September).
