flintlock help

It resembles the 1777 French Cavalry pistol but that is not what it is. However, I believe it is French based on the engraving on the lock plate which appears to read "Tulle" which was the French arsenal. The brass priming pan was also typical of French military firearms. The crown over the "C" is not a proof mark and is probably just an assembly mark or something of the sort. A search through my reference books did not turn up anything like it. It is possibly a gun made from the parts of a couple of other guns but I doubt it.
Maybe someone else can weigh in with a better idea.

Hi Lin,
Thank you so much for the reply & info.
I found this listing on Live Auctioneers - do you think it might be that one?

Yes I do. Don't believe I have ever seen one before but that is definitely what you have there, minus the ramrod.
Glad to help and I learned something in the process...

Would you mind providing your opinion of condition of mine versus the one that sold. Mine has a crack in it.
Thanks

Hi,
I was wondering if someone could please help me identify this flintlock pistol. I have added photos. It has a Crown & a C on several parts. It also has some engraving on the side.
Thanks |
Hi
The exact model:
PISTOLET DE MARINE, DIT « DE BORD », MODÈLE 1779, 1er type, ANCIENNE MONARCHIE.
So a pistol for the navy
Quite rare

The pistol being auctioned is in better condition than yours and has a ramrod, which yours does not.. If you are asking about value, I cannot really help you. This type pistol is apparently fairly rare, which the 1777 pistol is not, so that is a plus. Do not clean your pistol other than using a damp rag to carefully remove surface dirt. If you polish or heavily clean it, removing the patina it has developed over its lifetime, you will lessen its desirability to a collector. If you can locate a replacement ramrod that would help with value, as long as the replacement is an antique part.
That is about all I can tell you.

4900€, 4600€, 6700€, ... Okay, that's on the French market, but still.
So in my opinion it would probably be worth it to have it restored by a competent gunsmith specialized in antiques, and find an original ramrod (but one from a contemporary model will probably fit), cause you could make some bucks if it was in good condition
