Looking for a good swordsmith in Europe
Hi,

I've a design for a Schiavona:

The complete design is much more detailed, but the above image should give a reasonable indication for the sake of this question.

I would like to have this Schiavona made. My 'problem' is that I like very high quality of workmanship. This leads to my two questions:
  • Can anyone recommend a good sword smith in Europe, someone who has the skill and experience to create a well balanced and accurately designed Schiavona?
  • What price range would I be looking at, for a high quality replica?

I'm aware that those two questions are quite interrelated, that's why I choose to ask both at the same time.

Regards,

J.B.

For a good European Swordsmith who would make a schiavona, the first name that comes to mind is Vladimir Cervenka - http://www.sword.cz/eindex.htm

Also - Patrick Barta - http://www.templ.net/english/
You might consider Marco Danelli. He has made several schiavona already, and makes both sharp and sparring versions. He also displays the prices of his past work. http://danelliarmouries.com/index.php/custom-swords/schiavonas
Marco Danelli is what i thought of first, maybe Peter Regenyei but the complex hilt is more Marco's thing.
You might want to try Andrzej Mikiciak, he mainly does sabres but I think he might do a schaviona. Also he does like the best decorative work for the price range (500$-800$ depending on the decorations)
Schiavona
I'd echo the comments on Marco. I have one of his type 2 schiavona blunts and it is stunning to look at and handles very well

cheers

Unfortunately, may of these guys have long waiting lists.
I'm pretty sure that Danelli would do a good job but their waiting list for custom commissions extends into early 2019 the last time I asked. Good for people who would like to have some time to save up prior to their next sword order, but bad for people who already have the money and want their swords done quickly.

I guess you will not find a smith without some weeks or month of a waiting list
