I want to know the meaning of these words written on a breast plate.

This appears to be a field harness (it would be used in battle).

As I understand Christian belief in this time period, the inscription is both a declaration of the wearers' Christian faith and a plea for God's protection in battle.

It is the extended version of the "INRI" signage udually seen on the cross above Jesus...basically means - Jesus the Nazarene King of the Jews or Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews.

It is said that Pontius Pilate had it placed there to mock the belief that Jesus was the Messiah and savior of the Jews/mankind.It became a sign of one's Christian faith.

The previous responses have adressed your questions well, but I have a bit more information about the religious themes in the etching on this armour (A22, in the Wallace collection), if you are interested.

The cuirass, c.1510, is etched with a crowned "W" to indicate allegiance to Wladislas, King of Bohemia. A hand, issuing from a cloud, points to the monogram, which was a conventional means of indicating divine favour and a right to rule. In a ribbon below the monogram are letters which can be read D.I.D.M.E., or G.I.G.M.E. In the later case, the inscription is thought to be a religious invocation, which could be something like "Gott ist Gewisslich Mein Erloeser" which means "God is surely my redeemer." The inscriptions indicate the wearer's temporal and spiritual allegiances, but they also lend him authority by emphasizing the divine right of his king.

If you go to the Wallace Collection website and contact the curator, Dr Toby Capwell, he will no doubt furnish you with all the information you need. He sometimes posts on here too so might spot this.

To amend slightly what Phil D said: the 'titulus' on Jesus' cross (INRI) was not to mock Jesus' claim but to make clear to everyone the crime for which the criminal had been convicted, in this case claiming to be King of the Jews which was an offence against Roman authority. This was done with all crucifixions.
