Did hounskull visor was close in a close fight battle hand to hand.
Or did they were closed only outside close combat ?
I heard that some knight never close them in duel because it reduce too much vision awardness.
considering my fencing master (an olympic medallist) always taught 'lunge for the face, it puts them off', I suspect in real combat the same might well apply.
If there is a design on armour its there for a reason basically and if you can't work well with those features in place something is wrong with it. Yes they are great for flipping up and having a quick looksee or a breath/glass of wine, but have it up and you might loose that lucrative modelling contract pretty quick.

Some period illustrations show them worn closed in close fighting, others show them removed / nonexistent. One thing's for sure, once you are in wrestling range (and close combat in armour involves a deal of wrestling), they are a handy handle for turning your opponent's neck (or the helmet on his head if it is too loose to turn his head with the helm).
