New Dagger from Arms & Armor

The large wheel pommel dagger is an iconic style of the medieval period. Stiff in the blade, with a piercing taper, this deadly weapon was used by many fighting men of the 14th century. Our newest item is a stout dagger in this family. The large pommel and guard hold the grip fast as it was used in the combat styles of this time.
The furniture is steel mounted on a fullered blade, just over a foot long. The grip, with a riser at mid point, is shown here finished in black leather. Worn on the belt in armor or as a personal side arm close to hand this is a dagger for combat.

I really like quillon daggers a lot, and this one is a fine addition to the A&A lineup.

That is a great design - it's what a Medieval dagger should look like.

Hi Jeremy
It is constructed similar to our swords. Tang is all the way through and the pommel and nut held in place with a peened end.
Grip is hardwood covered in leather.

Absolutely Patrick. I had come across the image of Peter's on the web somewhere far distant. (the one where the gloved hand is gripping the tang) and had put it in the idea file. Loved the look of it. I made a few one offs playing with the proportions and feel of it and worked out the dimensions as best I could from the pic to an average hand. Sadly I did not find any of the info or realize Peter had done one that Nathan got until well after I had sorted the parts and gotten the production set up. I almost decided not to do it after I found the info but we all thought it was too nice not to let folks have a chance at one. Its been around for a bit its just been so busy I had not had time to get it prepped up to go on the web till now.
The piece feels great in the hand and I love Peter's replica a great deal. So this would be an interpretation as it says of the style. Images from the period have several examples that could well fall in this family and its one that there are not a huge amount of decent copies of.

I'm very glad you decided not to leave it on the shelf. It may have already been done, but your work has it's own character, even if it's the same design. I love the design and I've drooled over Nathan's dagger on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, he already owns it. :) I have so many swords in my collection that this could serve as a companion to. I definitely see one in my future.

I must agree. That design is so well executed and so compelling that it is now on my Seriously Must Get list.
That's what a dagger should look like - nasty. It would make a nice set with an XVI sword with a type 5/6 cross and a similar wheel pommel.

I love the A&A daggers. I have five and plan to buy more. I'm happy I have to add this one to the list. But I have some other projects that have to come first.
I just ordered one of these daggers!
