Just saw a 1798 pattern basket-hilt broadsword marked A.&A.S. on the ricasso. Assuming that is the maker's mark, can anyone tell me who that is? Have not found it in my references.

I must be an expert then because I found out on my own. The initials stand for Albert and August Schnitzler of Solingen. The sword in question has a steel basket hilt making it quite rare as nearly all other examples have brass baskets.

These two swordmakers were either brothers or father and son from Solingen (Who knows?).
