Kult of Athena has a new bunch of swords in from Universal Swords. They are unsharpened. Can they be sharpened without too much hassle? What is the over all quality of thier swords? Any first hand opinions?

They may turn out to be a little soft but still springy. I would try some of them but the barrel hole of period 18th and 19th century pieces has really spoiled my appetite for the reproductions. I have one India made sabre and the steel is as mentioned, a bit on the soft side. It is an overweight infantry type and handles ok, cuts ok but In the meantime though, I picked up a sound mounted artillery sword circa 1830 and it is an absolute delight for handling and cutting (mats, etc, nothing really hard).

Others have mentioned they might fill a void for an uber expensive original at a pittance of a price.

Was there a fancy schmancy model that catches the eye or are you looking for re-enactment and light cutting? Both? All?

I have watched your sales rotation and I think you might be disappointed for what they really offer. Both Weapon Edege and Universal are really catering to the show and tell crowd more than practical use. There may be some sleepers but by and large I see them all as kind of bleh. There is a French artillery glaive that looks pretty good and I have considered one, even for chopping and poking. A type kind of hard to mess up. Too much faux leather and plastic on some of them. I always liked the look of the French infantry sword we first saw appear on the Canadian site Reviewed years ago on SFI by William M if irrc. Military Heritage/ Discriminating General.

If it itches, scratch and let us know how you like it. I expect distal to be horrid compared to a period example.

First I thought that the hilt of the artillery sword pictured is damaged before realizing that it is shaped like an eagle's head.
