I was reading one of Oakeshott's books today, and he made reference to an illuminated manuscript called Romance of Alexander, written AD 1338-1344. In case you hadn't found this manuscript yet, it has some really great, detailed images.
This website has large, high-resolution scans (300 dpi) of the illuminations.

A low-resolution sample is included here.

Nice find. Everybody willing to link its images must pay attention to the cospicous copyright statement.....
Look at the guy spreading his cheeks and mooning someone at the very bottom of the page :p
Maybe he's mooning the tax collector?
Who says Medieval people didn't have a sense of humor? Reminds me of something from the Canterbury Tales.
LMAO

I can second Harry's recommendation of this 'Romance of Alexander'. The ms has over 250 illustrations of armoured warriors, combat on foot and on horse-back, all sorts of armour and details such as the guard chains for securing sword, dagger and helm. Mail, scale, coats-of-plates, bascinets +/- visors, great helms, kettle-hats, falchions, bucklers, longbows, crossbows, cannon and trebuchets - it's all there. Go feast your eyes.
