I plain to make a heater shield that would resemble templar's shield, but historical. What image that they would put on their shield?

Searching around in internet, I found few of the one that they likely used.

In San Bevignate Templar church the shield is black down, white up and little cross on the white.

The simplest design and the one which is probably most authentic, is a Black Chief over a White Field. The terminology I use is not absolutely correct but the design was simple after all. A very simple design reflects the simplicity of the Order. The Templars were not flashy by any means.

Al lthe depictions of the Templar banner, Beauseant, show black over white, and there is some evidence of its use on the shield.

However, the Templar church at Cressac shows a cross over an eagle, and it has been suggested that each house may have had their own variation.

Templar Seals sometimes seem to show only a cross. Others have multiple charges, lending credence to some degree of variation.

Cressac knight is thought to be a secular crusader, not a Templar. Because of heraldry on shield and lance pennant... And is that seal original? It would be a good proof of only a large cross on white shield...

AFAIR there is no historical evidence of the Beauseant in contemporary tales, it was just said that they used a banner black and white., how the colours were divided it's a matter of speculation...the shields depincted at San Bevignate looks more like Teutonic to me. :eek:

Interesting, I'd likely go with the Black and white with red cross in the middle OR just simple red cross over white shield
