Hello guys

I recently got myself a poleaxe head made by GDFB, and now only missing a shaft, but I don't know anything about wood. I heard hickory is the best wood you can get, and next is ash. I went to the local hardware store they have shafts like the ones mounted with axe head from A&A, but it's very light, seems it's going to break after couple strokes, and the store assistant did not know the material of that wooden shaft. I'm not sure where to get those specific shaft made, if anyone could provide some information it'll be greatly appreciated. :lol:

Purpleheart Armory is a good choice. I have their poleax trainer and it's nice.

I would also look at Peavey Manufacturing. They have ash pruning poles that are hexagonal in section and in various lengths.

and, BTW, ash is the preferred wood for polearms, historically

I would expect many home improvement stores/garden centers to stock these. You'll need a way to trim it to the correct section, of course (table saw). Too thick as-is.

My local hardware stores only seem to carry the wheelbarrow handles with holes. :(

I know ash was preferred, but I would expect hickory to be a good choice if you're just looking for strength. After all, they didn't have it.
