Just been browsing an old thread about bauernwehr and came across this picture below.

In the bottom right hand corner is what appears to be a very slender, very elegant bauernwehr with brass/ lattern scales or perhaps moulded with a whittle tang inserted.

Does any one know anything about this knife? My German is non existent, but it looks like end 15th early 16th to me and if anyone has any photos of this or a similar knife I would love to see them. I guess the text says 16th for this one, but confirmation would be great.

The one in the middle is the Bauernwehr (with no specific date given, about 34cm).
According to the text we have one eating-knife with engravings on the hilt (ca. 1500 that might be the one on the bottom right and looks smallest so the 14cm fit the bill),
one 18. Century knife with wooden grip scales (most likely top right) and one trenchdagger from about 1900.

I suppose that the bottom right corner is described by: "Ein Essmesser um 1500..." In that case it´s "an eating knife from around 1500, with engraved brass handle".
I think the "bauerwehr" from the title relates only to the biggest messer.

EDIT: So Marik was faster :)

I second Radovans interpretation. That leaves the upper right messer being "the 18th century knife with partially preserved wooden scales". "Bauernwehr" relates only to the biggest knife in the middle.

Tod, if you do reproduce that eating knife, you just might have to work up a long, slender bauernwehr to keep it from getting lonely... Maybe repeat the grip's rings and beaked pommel, but in a combination of materials (brass and bone?). Just a thought.

btw the issue of using brass/bronze on bauerwehr was discussed in another forum and it seems that for some reasons other materials than steel / iron had been user really rarely. In fact, I was able to find only one original with "nagel" from what looks like a yellowish metal.
