In an Osprey book of mine, it mentions that knights in the later 14th century sometimes covered the maille aventaille with a decorative covering. I have yet to see any effigies or images or surviving pieces in this style. I am very interested in it, as I am considering ditching the ineffective, unhistorical butted aventaille I have on my helm and replacing it with heavy padding covered in a decorative cloth, saving me weight, and money, and would look better.

If anyone could find any good documentation of this style, it would be much appreciated.
