I just came across the fact sheet of this unusual object: a promotionnal hilt cover, with the address and sign of a mid 18th parisian sword maker and dealer. I could just imagine a gentleman proudly bringing home his new silver hilted sword, protected by this leather cover.

On that note, I am posting here a recent sale of a smallsword marked to Lemuel Wells, of New York circa 1800. The wire likely a refit.
