Putting a handle on a knife blade (the historical way)
Here is a question for you all. I have a blade a friend gave me (Helle of Norway #HB-95, as seen here http://www.ragweedforge.com/BladeCatalog.html). I have a nice piece of apple wood I have worked into a handle, and also ring of reindeer antler that I was thinking of using as a spacer at the top of the handle. Doing as much research as I could I have found references to using pine pitch or pewter as a binder between blade and handle. But I wanted to ask about anybody's personal experiences. I am just getting into knife making, and would love any help (good books, websites, or advice) anyone would like to throw my way. My immediate questions:
1) Does anybody have experience attaching antler to wood? Type of glue?
2) Does anybody have experience with using either pewter or pitch to secure a blade into a handle?

Thank you
Haven't tried it, but cutler's resin would have been the commonplace method for doing this. Here are a couple pages talking about specific recipes.

Hope that helps.
