Making a Messer
Hello friends,

after learning so much from this side and its members I wanted to contribute a little to the site too.
Last week I started forging an new Messer blade.
I found inspiration on hermann historica with Lot Nr.3611 from the 61st auction (a german Messer from the early 16th century).
While I loved seeing other projects I thought I showed you how I make my swords.
The first attached picture is the raw forged blade and the second picture is the blade after first rough grinding.
I will do more grinding tomorrow and if there is interest, I will post more pictures of my progress.

Nice project! I make one too! Forged from a leafspring, 2x normalized.

I'll finish mine probably this evening.

Good luck, go on!

Martin, how about an update? Is it finished yet?
Hi Scott,
thanks for asking, but my time schedule has has been changed terribly so I did not have enough time to do what I wanted (making a forestry bachelor is extremely time consuming...).
All I did until now is finishing the machine-grinding and some raw filing. The Blade now weights just over 1000grams and starts to feel alive. I will be home next weekend and upload some pictures of the current state.
Hi,

here is a picture of the current state of the blade. I had to bend the blade near the grip to straighten it, so that is why it is coloured in this parts.
