The leatherwork on the ricasso features light tooling to add a little detail without dominating too much.
The insert in the one lug is the stamp on a brass insert. For it's weight the sword handles surprisingly easily in the normal mode and shortening adds that much more control. The ricasso is 10mm thick (bare steel under the leather) and tapers to 8mm at the lugs. There is a very subtle narrowing in the middle of the ricasso that is hardly visible but it adds to the comfort of gripping it. The grip is beech with cord covered in calf skin with Cape buffalo horn spacer. The ricasso cover is stitched along the one side.
Keep well
Nostro
:surprised: love it and want it
WOW that sword looks amazing, I love it! The design is simple compared to other similar swords, but to me thats a good thing. The detailing is also very tasteful, well done. If I may ask, how wide is the blade? Also is the blade essentially parallel edged up to the tip, or does it taper some? I love the large cleaving veriety of two handers hence all my questions.
Regards.

Wow! Beautiful. I haven't done a lot of two handers and most have been pretty plain (at customer's request). That would be a fun one.
Hi Nicholas
The blade profile tapers from 36.8mm just where it exits the leather to 28.6mm at the tip. Here's a picture to illustrate better.

This is tremendous.
XVI century is not my favorite period in general, but some of those swords were really awesome.
And your is really great take on them.
Any particular swords you had in mind while crafting this beast?

Hey Nostro thanks for the measurements, helps give me a better perspective of this swords proportions.
It's surprisingly more narrow than I originally thought it was, figured it was at least 4 cm or more. Some two handers have rather thick grips which can fool your perspective of the swords true size. Doesn't change the fact that the sword is awsome :D
