which style of hilt would you recommend for a rapier of the 1560s period?
i know that the term rapier cover a wide range of possibility but for clarity, i'm looking for a hilt to mount on a long narrow duelling blade, so a strictly civilian sword,
thanks for help
Gabrielle,
The best answer is to get yourself a copy of A. V. B. Norman's The Rapier and small-sword which has a complete typology for rapier hilts with date ranges for each.
In general, favour side rings over swept hilts for the 1560's.
