I played hookie from work yesterday to do some stuff around the house. Also went by one of the local libraries and came
across this neat book by Frederick Wilkinson titled "Swords and Daggers" coyright 1967. It contains a pant load of neat pics and lots of good info. Been scanning photos this eve, so I'd thought I would share a few.
First, love the piercings on this...

Thanks for sharing!
I have a similar book on Rapiers by Eric Valentine. Also a neat little book.
Hi Bill,
That first sword you showed is one that I've always really liked!
Hey, could you do a favor for me and post a photo for me? There's an English sword somewhere in the first half of that book that dates from the very late 1500s to the first quarter of the 1600s. It has long countercurved quillons with a bite out of the ends. Two finger rings are below the quillons. There are two side rings, one on each side of the guard, that have later plates installed. The pommel is spherical with a hole for a sword knot.
Thanks in advance! --ElJay

Lee, hi-ho lad!
Patrick, I saw the Valentine book there as well, but it was in the reference section so I couldn't check it out, another trip back
though to do more research.
Eljay, how goes it? With all this new data I'm running across, i'll be speaking to you more about the Mortuary / Proto-Mort. project.
Would this be the pic that you are requesting? Still in the process of scanning, so if it's not it, I'll keep posting 'til I get the right one for ya'.

I think it is Lee. For a small book it has quite a bit of good information in it.

I agree. It's very small, and the information is a bit sparse, but the pieces it covers and displays photographically are rather unique. In the world of books, we've picked a subject that isn't well covered. These kinds of prices, even for these small books, is well within reason; and well worth it.
Cheers chaps,
I may follw up on that auction,
I may follw up on that auction,
Now that falchion looks very familiar, I just bought the Arms and Armor version from Nathan!
Is there any more information in it from the book? Who carried it that sort of thing?

All the pics posted look quite nifty to me. The falchion in plate 39 really calls to me. I have a sketch around here based off an original I happened to see somewhere in my net travels, that looks very similar but has a wheel pommel. I wish there were some like this on the market... Would really love to own one.
And why can't my library have something like these books, I'd like to know? lol

Russ,
The only info. about that particular Falchion is what is listed with the pic. This book is 250 pages, 163 pages are nothing but these type of plate photos. Sorry.

That's the one I remembered! Thanks very much!

Thanks for the tip on this thread! That plate 39 falchion is fantastic!!
By the way, I've found a number of incredible military history/Arms&Armour book bargains through Edward Hamilton. I still kick myself for not getting the Ango Saxon weapons & warfare book when it was, if I remember correctly, around $10 at EH.
Here's the EH Military history index page:

Cool. My wife's mum orders stuff from them all the time. Have acquired some of Brassey's books dirt cheap there.
