Here's a hanger i recently finished. Bits and pieces of it have been in the works for a few months, and its finally come together. The blade is 7075-T6 aluminum with a stage combat edge. Its got a fairly wide single fuller, which is a bit hard to see in the photos. The hilt is all steel with an american chestnut grip. The pommel cap is pinned tot he grip with tiny round-head nails, and the hilt assembly is secured with a 5/16-18 pommel nut. The curved plate was version two, carved with a dremmel tool. Version one was acid etched using copier-toner as the resist and had a really nice "antiqued" quality, but i got it too hot in the bending stage and melted some of the detail. This one matches the finish quality of the rest of the quard, and the lobes aren't quite as pointy, so its probably for the best. Below are some pictures of the finished product, and some process shots. There's also a picture showing its size relative to the last hanger i posted here. Also in the shot is a cutlass i recently re-ground. All three are aluminum, and all three are available to any Piratical re enactors out there in search of some very lightweight and corrosion resistant sidearms.....
I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Jesse
