Hi everybody,
I am visiting Germany this summer and intend to include the Rustkammer in the Historisches Museum in Dresden in my travels. Since I have been previously disappointed when visiting a museum only to find it closed for whatever reason, I would be grateful if anyone can confirm that the Armoury (Rustkammer) is currently open - or, horrors, warn me if it is closed. Many thanks.
Neil
Hi Neil,
Armoury /Rustkammer / in Zwinger is open from April - see:

Really recommend the visit, I have lots of photographs of weapons from there.
Enjoy it :)

Hi Michal,
Thanks for your prompt reply. Just what I wanted to know. I have booked a hotel in Dresden and look forward to my visit.

I second this: I was there 3 years ago, and it's an amazing place!
Great idea. Btw.Berlin isn't far away with lots of museums and you can likely get on a cheap bus that drives with an old West-Berlin special allowance between Western Germany and Berlin. They are the cheapest long distance transport in Germany because they are the only exception where busses are allowed to compete with trains in long distance travel. Another nice place to visit is Leipzig, 115km drive from Dresden. It has a renown army museum and they even speak the same dialect there :).
Thanks Kurt, I was in Berlin just last year and agree about the marvellous museums, though the DHM displays less of its arms & armour than it did 30 years ago! Haven't time for Leipzig this time but will keep it in mind for a future visit.

Hi,
I forgot - near from Dresden is fortress Koenigstein. It´s definitely worth visiting! http://www.festung-koenigstein.de/index.php/index.html
Or castle Moritzburg – you will not find many weapons there, but there are many amazing hunting trophies. There are so many places to visit J http://www.schloss-moritzburg.de/en/homepage/
I´d like to know if the museum in Ingolstadt is any good?? Does anybody know? Are there any interesting swords?
Cheers, Michal
