Hello all,
I'm trying to select the correct shoes for my early 12th century Norman kit. Does anyone have any experience with either of these two?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I actually have the "Viking Shoes" you linked to.
They are a bit snug, so order one size larger than you regularly would use ^^
Mine are solidly built, even though they are made in the Middle East (at least my pair was)

Francois provides many of the fussiest reenactors in Quebec with their foot wear, and will make the soles according to preference as leather soles are sometimes inadequate for rugged use, such as running around in the woods where the feet can really take a beating...

I just ordered a pair of machine stitches shoes from Ana Period Shoes. They came recommended to me by someone from The Vikings (the people who organise The Battle of Hastings). When they arrive I will let you know how they are.
Hi
I would also vouch for Anna Period Shoes. The machine stitched shoes that she sells are generic and good for a couple of seasons general re-enactment use and they are a decent price, but if you want correct historic period pattern turn shoes shoes I highly recommend her hand stitched shoes, expensive but they fairly reflect the work that they take. Look at her Anglo-Norman shoes, which I commisioned after a find from the London Bridge area.
best

Awl Leather in Australia makes some great shoes also. I have been wearing a pair for about 4 years now and they are still going strong (this includes rigorous combat on a variety of terrains). They will do custom work aso, and have a very fast turn around.

Good morning Larry,
You might be interested in Viking Leather Crafts. Frank is a retailer for Westland products and has a very solid reputation for customer service. A quick search of the Armour Archive Classifieds board will return dozens and dozens of positive reviews, including mine. :)

I can't comment on the quality of construction, but the design is workable:

i got myself a pair of these but in the 2 toggle version of Bohemond, and they are great.. were a bit slippery on the grass at first (i just had leather soles and not modern stuff) but after they were worked in the are grippy and sturdy.
i will be getting more from him if/when mine need replacing.
Thanks for all the help guys!
I decided to go with the Viking Toggle Boots with vibram sole from Viking Leather Crafts. For the price, these seemed like the best choice.
Patrick, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. :) I ordered the pants you suggested. Thanks again.
Scott, thanks for the info on Viking Leather Crafts.
For all the other newbies (like myself) out there, take your time with your kit. I have wasted alot of money on kit that is just plain wrong. Sometimes an items description says its "medieval" or "renaissance", but you really need to do your homework to be sure it fits you time period. Also, as I am not particularly computer savy, research can be exceedingly difficult. Myamorury has proven to be a valuable resource and I truly appreciate all the help the members have provided.
