Robert the Bruce was known to use an Ax in battle. Any ideas of it's design ???

I dont suppose we will ever know exactly what axe he used but we can of course guess and speculate.

For what it's worth, I like the axe design that the statue of Robert the Bruce at the Bannockburn Centre has. See the picture taken by me in the following link.

Fun question. I'm not sure how accurate it is but I have a replica axe from Hank Reinhardt's collection that was supposed to be a Robert the Bruce axe.

I suppose that the best guess would be find some typology, then data about types that were popular in Scotland at the time.

From polish finds - different types, when they were used, and how many were found.

It seems that:

VII, VIII, XIII - are interpreted weapons
VIIa, X, XIa, XII - tools
VIIIa, IX, IXa, Xa, XI - tools or/and weapons


Maybe someone would know more about state of this in Britain/Scotland. :)
