Anything known about this one? It doesn't look like the typical Hollywood movie.

I'd watch it.

Well I noticed two things that run counter to current Hollywood movies. First the lead character is not some studly young boy actor for the teenage girl demographic. Also there doesn't appear to be any love interest in some scantily clad female warrior type for the young male demographic. Therefore it probably won't be marketed much and suck at the box office. I'll watch it though for the cool violence. ;-)

It's set during the Viking Age, 'OneEye' been a warrior who is in slavery, and the voyage ends up in North America where he becomes a saviour for the survivors...not at all like the appaling Hollywood 'Pathfinder' which was a very poor version of the original Finnish movie of the same title.

The Danish lead actor has appeared in the directors graphic violence 'Punisher' series,

It looks quite interesting, but I think its more of a film in the Seventh Seal mold rather than your standard historical movie if you get my meaning.

yeah i gathered that the "One Eye" is really Odin. and he has a gift of premonition, sort of blood-drenched visions thing. and he does not talk much. grim and determined. thats your Odin right there

Well judging from the trailer it looks violent enough for anybody who isn't a totally raging psychopath! When did you say it was going to be released? I can hardly wait!!!

Finally, a movie that I might actually see in the theater. I'd see it just for the axe work.

I found it online and have watched about half of it. It is extremely violent and frequently dream-like. Very odd movie. I'll have to find time to finish watching it.

Watched it again just after waking up and liked it very much. :)

It's a good movie, but not for everyone. Beautiful landscapes, interesting and weird charakters, a bit of an "artsy" look and short intermissions of brutal violence. A bit like a viking "The proposition" or maybe even a viking "Apocalypse Now" without the big battle scenes.

There's not much fighting in it, but I like the few minutes of it very much. There seem to be some liberties with historical accuracy (it's a movie after all), but the whole movie somehow "feels" very "viking".

Watch it if you're in the mood for something unconventional, but don't try to watch it as "light family entertainment".

Finally got to watch this on pay-per-view cable. Yes, its a very strange arty movie with long slow sequences of scenery and imagery interspersed with brief periods of brutal violence. Definitely a Heart of Darkness / Apocolypse Now vibe. The main theme seems to be Paganism vs. Christianity, and maybe hypocracies in the latter, but I didn't really understand the details of all the imagery. While at first the mix of Viking and late medieval Gaelic weapons irked me, it soon becomes apparent that (without spoiling the plot) any realism of historic sequence, or even geography, or possibly even reality is irrelevant in this movie. I'm not sure whether I liked it or not.

Very much an art film and this can be genius or just pretentious: I can't really say which. ;) Sometimes one just doesn't get it or sometimes there really isn't anything to get except for some snobbish film buffs who pretend to get it and feel superior to the " peasants " who are not sophisticated enough to understand the film! A lot of the same can be said about a lot of Modern art.

The first half seemed to have a story and felt gritty and promising but I found the second half some sort of muddled message that I'm really not sure what the message is but suspect a bit of " White Man's " guilt versus nature or native peoples ?

Some unmentioned backstory where the main character may have been guilty of something or felt guilty about something he did in the past to the natives at some North American Viking colony ?

Won't get into any details to avoid spoilers.

Art film... long boring sections, the Norse get lost on the way to the Holy Land (and how) and just when I thought there was going to be a big pay off at the end... naaaaaaaw.

Hated it. Glad I got to watch in on net flixs for free.

Won't ever watch it again.

I will say, each person should watch it to make up their own mind.

I bought it. I really liked it, but then again I have strange taste in movies apparently. I think 12 monkeys and Bubba Ho-Tep are two of the best movies ever made but I never see them on anyones top 100 list.

The movie is dirty, gritty and bloody. Some people think is is slow, but really the slow moments are to help absorb you into the moment and allow yourself to relax a bit after the gut wrenching violence.

I know the movie is available for free streaming if you have netflix.

I like Bubba Ho-Tep, 12 Monkeys, Barton Fink and a bunch of other films that are not on the top 100, but this one... No.
