scots all steel pistols in amer. ??
In the "ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM, they have these all steel Scots pistols.



Here is the info I have


Anyone have more on these ???

I didn't know there was any Scottish stuff in the ROM! I went there years ago, but spent the entire trip in the Egypt exhibit.

I can't say I know anything about those pistols specifically, but there may be something in this book: http://www.amazon.com/White-People-Indians-Hi...0195340124

I've got a copy but I can't look it up right now, I'll check it out and try to post again later today.

They also have a "basket Hilt ( "Pinch of Snuff ) & a "Claymore"

The book mentions Joseph Brant, but there is no mention of those pistols specifically.

The pistols exist & as ROM says, were a "gift". According to the ROM’s accession files, these pistols were made for the Duke of Northumberland. According to tradition, the Duke presented the pistols to Joseph Brant of the Six Nations (Haudenosaunee) in 1791.

The single pistol ( by the plate) as well as the bottom pistol ( pic with red background ) belonged to William McGillivray (the Chief Director of the NWC ) The engraving on the left grip also has the NWC Arms & on the right grip the NWC crest ( a beaver chewing on a tree ) & the initals, WM. The gun was made by Jn. Murdoch of Doune in ca 1800.
