I just finished another one of my favorite blade types to make and figured I would share some steps along the way. I tried to take some pictures between each step and I uploaded a ton of them to our facebook. (http://www.facebook.com/baltimoreknife)
This is a flamberge short sword that I made on monday.
Blade length is 22"
Cocobolo handle
Fishtail pommel
POB is 1.75" from the hilt
Edge : sharp
The customer asked for a dagger/short sword in the flamberge style. The rest was up to me so I mixed and matched some hilt pieces and pommel ideas untill I got something I felt worked well together. This is what I came up with.

Thanks. I am pretty proud of this piece. From straight bar to finished piece including heat treat I have 2 and half hours in this sword. I call it speed grinding and things just clicked. Thought the customer was coming around midnight to pick it up and they called me at 6:15 to tell me that they were 1 hour away. They waited for a few mins while I sanded the handle. I was a proud man that night.

Well, I guess you busted me there. I didnt think about that. It was in the oven during lunch. :) Doh ! I guess I should say that my hands on time was 2.5 hours.

I would love to make one. I haven't done a bastard Flamberge in a few years. No problem. I prefer a bit more taper too. This was just a bar of alloy that had been sitting around waiting to become something for awhile. I like the curves to get tighter and tigher towards the tip.
