Hi fellow swordsmen,

yesterday arrived my new aunlaz dagger, sold by Arma Bohemia. It's made after an original find, which is displayed in the collection of the Bayerisches Armeemuseum in Ingolstadt/Germany.

I ordered it specifically blunt, to be used at medieval fairs and so on, as such sharps are forbidden by german law in public. Well, the arma had it sharpened it and blunted it then again... :eek: There are also some minor flaws in the overall construction of the dagger, but since I waited several months (instead of 6-8 weeks as promised on their website), I decided to go with it. :\ Originally I ordered it without a sheath, but Jakub offered me an already made one for a small fee. It has a wooden core and a leather covering. I was a bit disappointed, when I found out, that the leather was just glued on, and not sewn. Well, it was cheap, so I don't argue over this. I nonetheless plan to make my own scabbard for the dagger.

A nice detail are the copper inlays at the guards. The replica Aunlaz available via arms & armor lacks these pieces. I am glad, the arma got this right.The overall appearance of the dagger is a bit rough, but well, it's an mediaval item. I'll polish it, if it begins to annoy me. :D

Since I got a cold this weekend, I stayed at home and did some leatherwork. Please note: this is the first time for me, that I have sewn leather like this. So... don't be too harsh ;). I was a bit undecided, if I should go with plain leather or use a bit of goat fur, I found in my stash. Well... I thought the plain leather would be more appropriate for a sergeant at arms. Then I added a suspension like shown on serveral effigies (e.g. in this thread:

Perhaps I could do some ornamentation on the front piece? If you've got any ideas what and how to do it, let me know them. So I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Nice dagger! It should be noted that Arms & Armour's dagger is based of a different, but very similar original. Also, they can add they copper bits in the guard as an upgrade.

The scabbard looks good to me and even more so for a first try at it. :D :cool:

I like that dagger's design a lot. The curves are pleasing to the eye. Nice scabbard too.

For something on the front piece, does your city or town have an emblem, seal, or coat of arms? Or for that matter does your family?

Also, a Cross Potent is always a good choice.

A very fine dagger. And some fine leatherwork too, by the way.
I have been admiring the dagger only just yesterday on the arma bohemia website, your pictures are giving a much better inpression of the piece.

I have one of these that I got months ago. Overall I am very happy with the piece. I got it with a scabbard as well, I think mine is glued too (I would have to check).

I really like the weight and balance of the dagger.
