HI there - long time occasional reader, first time poster and still a complete novice! Amazing the breadth of knowledge here, always a pleasure to read.
I was wondering...any ideas on this sword? Did a whole bunch of searching and couldn't find anything particularly similar overall and lacked the descriptive terms to really search properly. Blade is 37.5 inches, Total length is a hair under 48 inches.
Thanks!
Steven

hi, this sword looks very nice. i haven't seen any similar pieces and i'm not specialist, but for me it's a XIX / XX century decorative sword. for me pictures don't give enough good view on this object to evaluate it properly.
Possibly a masonic ceremonial sword?
EDIT Come to think of it though 37" blade does seem a touch on the long side for a masonic sword.

I vote XIXth Century decorative. It doesn't look like most ceremonial swords I've seen; Masonic, Knights of Columbus, etc. I'd guess more of something that once adorned a Victorian era wall somewhere. Nice looking, though! I wasn't attempting to denigrate it at all. :)
Looks like something Bannerman's would have cooked up with spare parts/pieces - those finials on the crossguard look suspiciously like tulwar pommels.
