Seems to follow the pattern of the Japanese army or police saber without the markings. Passed on from my grandfather to my father, and now me. I'm at a loss...
Thanks

I saw a sword in an online auction that was similar to this, advertised as a WWII Japanese Police sword. It had sharkskin and a chain instead of the full knuckle guard, but was otherwise close to yours. I'll look around and see if I can find anything else.
Also, yours has more of a "button" look than a flower halfway down the grip.
Hmm... I'll keep looking when I get a chance.

P.S. I looked around a little more. Check out this description on wiki answers. It may help narrow it down:

Thanks Shane! I'll check out the sites you mentioned. I also need to measure the length....
Wayne - you have an Army Model 1886 Regulation Pattern NCO's saber.
Thanks Hal,

Thanks Hal,
I tried to search for info on the Army Model 1886 Regulation Pattern NCO's saber you provided and couldn't find anything. Could you point me in a direction where I can find who used these, where/when, etc...the history behind it basically. I could kick myself for not asking my grandfather & dad..... Thanks again for IDing it for me. I did take a couple more pics and measured the blade at a little over 31 inches (about another 1/16).
