I just received an Anglo-Saxon Helm from Mercenary's Tailor, and would not hesitate to recommend their work to anyone.

There is one problem though. As mentioned in their section of the Albion website "...It was not designed to fit a specific individual but rather the average line soldier of the time...these are not designed in different sizes, but are made to an average size which can be slightly altered by the individual upon receipt if necessary."

So, I knew there might be a fit up issue. As it turns out, with my pin-head (22-3/4 inch circumference), the fit of the helm makes me look a bit like the Dark Helmet character in "Space Balls". This is not that big of a deal, since I mostly want it for display. But it would be nice to be able to put it on occasionally, and have others pretend to look at me with fear, rather than roll on the floor with laughter.

Any suggestions out there for improving the fit?

We are having a hurricane day here in Central Florida, so that we can prepare for Charley to come through. Schools and a lot of businesses closed.

While I was cleaning up loose debris in my yard (e.g., wheelbarrow), it occurred to me :idea: that, when the wind picks up, I could wear my new helm for protection from flying tools and such :!: I am sure the neighbors would think that perfectly normal.

Of course, if you get wacked in the head, even while wearing a helm, if you don't have something to absorb the shock, you will still get a big ouch. :eek: So, some padding would be a good idea. That's when I came up with a novel idea. :idea: :idea: I call it an "arming cap", :cool: basically, a fitted pad that you wear between your head and your helm. Of course, that means that you actually want the helm to be larger than your head. I'll apply for the patent on Monday.
