Greetings all,
Finally completed (as far as these things ever are), the English translation of the latin text on sickle fighting from Paulus Hector Mair’s De Arte Athletica (BSB Cod.icon. 393(1)) made by Saskia Roselaar and myself is now available online on the Noorderwind website. It can be found here:

If you have any questions regarding this document, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Enjoy and stay safe!

Thanks for your efforts!

Fantastic! I didn't know anyone was working on an English translation of this. Do you have any plans to do the rest of the (admittedly enormous) manuscript?
We have no plans along those lines (time is an important limiting factor here).
However:
- There is a translation available for all the pole-weapon sections in the book ( http://www.paladin-press.com/product/Polearms...and_Combat ).
- I think one of the authors of this book is working on the rapier section (something along those lines was mentioned on swordforum I believe).
- I have a rather sketchy translation of the Peasant staff material, but that will need quite some work before being publishable, and Youval wants to get into the Scythe part. In addition, I would love to have a translation of the dagger section.

i heard on another forum there is an upcoming translation of the grappling in it with applications for mma nd self defense cant wait for it. well done wanted something like this for a while any suggestions on what to use as a practice sickle?
excellent work.
excellent work.
The easiest to use is a blunted normal sickle. A safer option that we also use a lot is a piece of 8mm mild steel roundbar bent into sickle-shape with a handle of rope soaked in wood glue wound around it. Does this help? If not I can give a clearer description tomorrow, when I am at my computer.
yeah that is a good description now i just have to find a set of sickles.
