I came across this item on the Culloden House Antiques website - called a British India fighting knife, worn by the bodyguard of the Maharaja of Burdwans, West Bengal, mid 19th century. It has a 13 inch blade, and a brown quartz grip with a mother of pearl circle on it.
Nice knife!

That is a nice find Roger. I have always loved knives with guards on them. In fact this one reminds me of the broken saber carried by the main character in the television show Branded. I think Richard Widmark was the star?

very nice knife, when i have see it i have tought the same as Scott, looks like a broken sabre and it's not dissimilar from a d-guard bowie, i have always had the intention to start a topic about fighting knife, it would be nice to see other examples.
Boy was I wrong, it was Chuck Connors who starred in Branded and not Richard Widmark. It goes to show you, do not post before the caffeine kicks in! Though I would not mind having a knife like that still.
Gabriele, you are correct since it also reminds me of a D-guard Bowie knife which I also like.

Branded, with Chuck Conners as an army officer cashiered for supposed cowardice (hence the broken saber) wandering the Old West , sort of like The Fugitive. The title chorus sings passionately, What do you do when you're branded... and you know you're a man!!?
Has anyone come across another grip that is made of crystal? - an unusual choice.

Tirri "Islamic weapons" has a few. One that looks like clear quartz, with a tiny short rod tang. Some jade ones as well. Persian and Indian.
"Iron and Steel Swords of China" has some as well. Persian-influenced.
