$99 CS Horseman's Sword: Schiavona in the Rough?
I found this on closeout on another forum:

http://www.ltspecpro.com/horsman.html

I picked one up myself to see if I can customize it into a schiavona. At $200-$250, it's not worth it. But, on special for $99 made it unresistable. One of my biggest questions concerning it is what could be done to make it an ad-hoc schiavona? It's based on the old Windlass schiavona (literally the same parts), sans grip and pommel: http://www.myArmoury.com/review_mrl_schia2.html

My thoughts: I was thinking of shortening the blade from the shoulders and extending the tang about 1/2". Then, I was planning on hand-milling a cat's head pommel from iron, redoing the grip, and peening the pommel. Giving it a proper edge and reworking the finish might do it justice as well.

Though definately a far cry from a historically accurate piece, I think it would be made into a decent functional replica for very little investment. Any other thoughts on it or ideas for reworking it?
The hilt's form really isn't anything at all like a schiavona.
I'll do a little more research on it; but I definately see what your saying from a quick review of the article here in the site. The schiavona is defiantely not my strong point - I have never seen a real one or a replica other than the Del Tin and MRL versions. Perhaps I could order a basket hilt Darkwood Armoury to do it a little more justice, or turn it into something else all together.

At any rate, perhaps this will at the least initiate a learning experience for me in a realm I have not delved before. :)
I'll echo Nathan...even at $99, I'd save my money!
I like the blade but the cage is to be thrown away. Making a schiavona hilt is the most complex of tasks.

In any case schiavonas were just hilts, blades could vary widely and the blade in question resembles an original I saw some years ago.

As of the hilt it is a different question.
