Just a query;
What music [i.e. Band and/or spesific songs] or routines for that matter, do you rouge-ish lot listen to (or do) before participating in an event of any sort?
I for one have been getting into 'Blind Guardian' recently, And I spesificaly listen to 'The Bard's Song' and 'Skalds and Shadows' do get the blood flowing.
Nothing inspires bravery like song about dragons, warriors and LOTR ;)
And what would you recomend?
P.S. Air guitar in mail, makes you look like a knob, but feels EPIC

Led Zepplin's Immigrant Song always comes to mind, among many others...
Ah-ahh, ah, Ah-ahh, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying:
Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.
Ah-ahh, ah, Ah-ahh, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green,
Can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war.
We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day
Despite of all your losing.
Along the same lines - how many people, when forging or tempering metal, hear the theme song to the the first "Conan" movie in their head, when the father is forging the sword.... other than me!

Rhapsody of Fire: at Lodi one year ago we charge with "Dawn of Victory" in our ears!
"Fire is raging in the battlefield..."

I vote for metal even if I know they aren't pure metal, but I don't know in what other genre put them.

Can I add a prayer to the organizators of the manifestations?
Stop with "Ivanhoe"!

Bagpipes for sure, is there anything else? :D
What? No selection for classical scores like Beethoven's Ninth or Carmina Burana? Who couldn't charge into battle with O Fortuna playing in the background? But, as an alternate I have to go with Zeppelin.
I also second the call for Blind Guardian. Just listened to Nightfall in Middle-Earth at the suggestion of a friend and loved it. Definitely battle-worthy music.

As always I ask myself: What would Lemmie do in a situation like this?
So my vote goes for Motörhead - Dogs of War
'nuff said

I didn't really have the chance to participate in any of the said events, but heavy / power metal would probably be my choice. Manowar has quite a few songs set in the viking / medieval period, and their ballads are really inspiring. Iron Maiden pops to mind also.
Swords in the wind (Manowar)
I Surrender My Soul Odin Hear My Call
One Day I'll Sit Beside Your Throne In Valhalla's Great Hall
Like So Many Before Me I'll Die With Honor And Pride
The Right Of A Warrior Forever To Fight By Your Side
Send A Sign Raise The Sail Wave A Last Goodbye
Destiny Is Calling Immortality Be Mine
Call The Witch To Cast The Runes, Weave A Magic Spell
We Who Die In Battle Are Born Not For Heaven Not For Hell
We Are Sons Of Odin The Fire We Burn Inside
Is The Legacy Of Warrior Kings Who Reign Above In The Sky
I Will Lead The Charge My Sword Into The Wind
Sons Of Odin Fight To Die And Live Again
Viking Ships Cross The Sea, In Cold Wind, And Rain
Sail Into The Black Of Night Magic Stars Our Guiding Light
Today The Blood Of Battle Upon My Weapons Will Never Dry
Many I'll Send Into The Ground Laughing As They Die.

Place My Body On A Ship And Burn It In The Sea
Let My Spirit Rise Valkries Carry Me
Take Me To Valhalla Where My Brothers Wait For Me
Fire Burning To The Sky My Spirit Will Never Die

nothing better than bagpipes and drums,
I would second the call for a classical/orchestral option. No classical=no Wagner :(
I've never understood the bagpipes thing. I've always felt that they would annoy the enemy more than they would impress/frighten them. Personally speaking the sound of bagpipes has always made me want to kill the piper
Having thought about it I'd have to come down on the side of Metal from the choices above. Pantera's Mouth for War would do the trick.

the song i would choose is definitely into battle (Ensiferum): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfrYkpa3770&feature=related
Heather Alexander's "March of Cambreadth." I recently played this for a pacifist, and he commented it made him want to run out and hit people with a sword.

This one is actually pretty good:

I'd go celtic/folk/medieval myself, so I guess that's last option...

I second this; failing that traditional bagpipes/drums.
Where's the option for Punk/Hardcore? Can't get my rage on without some Sex Pistols, Circle Jerks, Black Flag or DKs! :wtf: Guess I'll have to settle for the pipes, then. Alba go Bragh!

had to throw a vote in for metal "Up the Irons'!!!
too many to try and list but the first one that came to mind.....
Black Sabbath - Mob Rules.....with Ronnie James screamin' - "come on" to go with.
(though some Black Flag with Henry Rollins leading the charge would be cool too.......)
cheers,
Bill

Voted for Metal myself - stuff from Rammstein kicks ass for getting pumped up !
However also there are some mega-good classical orchestral pieces.
Vincent - thanks for that link, Schelmish are really quite good ! Plenty of folksy / rock / metal bands come from europe for some reason !!?

We need a rousing version of the Agincourt Carol:
Owre kynge went forth to Normandy,
With grace and myyt of chivalry;
The God for hym wrouyt marvelously,
Wherefore Englonde may calle, and cry
Deo gratias:
Deo gratias Anglia redde pro victoria.
He sette a sege, the sothe for to say,
To Harflue toune with ryal aray;
That toune he wan, and made a fray,
That Fraunce shall rywe tyl domes day.
Deo gratias, &c.
Then went owre kynge, with alle his oste,
Thorowe Fraunce for all the Frenshe boste;
He spared 'for' drede of leste, ne most,
Tyl he come to Agincourt coste.
Deo gratias, &c.
Than for sothe that knyyt comely
In Agincourt feld he fauyt manly
Thorow grace of God most myyty
He had bothe the felde, and the victory
Deo gratias, &c.
Ther dukys, and erlys, lorde and barone,
Were take, and slayne, and that wel sone,
And some were ledde in to Lundone
With joye, and merthe, and grete renone
Deo gratias, &c.
Noe gratious God he save owre kynge,
His peple, and all his wel wyllynge,
Gef him gode lyfe, and gode endynge,
That we with merth mowe savely syng
Deo gratias, &c.
Too bad I can't give you the music - it's a very catchy tune.

There's a version here (starting at about 1'25") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CbRBq95BG8
Or if that's not sufficiently rousing, a modern Brass band version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg0LmAy6Brg
