Hi guys me again. Does anyone ever saw, heard of or know about any chinese variation of war clubs?
The closest thing that I am aware of is the Japanese tetusbo, a studded or iron shod club.
Any idea of the context of those "war clubs"? Narrowing down the period or the region could help jog some people's memory, especially since China was (and is) huge.
There is the chui or chang (not sure about the name) which is a chinese mace, I couldn't find a picture but the drawing I have found in Roland Habersetzer's "Encyclopedie des arts martiaux" looks much like number 3 on this indo-persian weapons list: http://www.therionarms.com/armor/maces3.jpg
Look up "The 18 Weapons"... There is a pair of large clubs included amongst the 18. I don't know how to use them, so I couldn't tell you the names just off the top of my head. Sorry.
And look up "Sleeve Thunder"... A small club hidden in the baggy sleeves, next to the Shih tzu puppy... I have one of these at home. Very cool.
Sorry I can't say more about this now... I'm at work. In about 10 hours, I'll get out a book at home and give you some more.
But looking up those should help for now anyway...
One interesting thing I always notice - The clubs from "The 18 Weapons" so closely resemble those used by the Hindu followers of Hanuman and the great Indian wrestlers, albeit smaller than the huge ones the Hindus use.

OK... They're called Jian (different intonation to the word for "sword"), and they look like these ones here, which are for sale:

Bennison, this is the wrong forum to brag about your Shih Tzu, go join myKennel.com
;) :p
Randall,
Do you have Chinese Simplified language support on your machine? That might be it, maybe? Worked fine for me... They're quite big, but nowhere as large as the Indian ones. They're basically a large round head on a shaft. Try googling "The 18 weapons", that'll show the JIan...
Nat,
Haha... Very funny. I was actually thinking of getting a Shih Tzu too, but I don't have one yet. Some Chinese people used to hide them in their sleeves in years past, to sense evil people... I'm not kidding.

Most weapons in 18 is actually daily bases tools.
Thanks Bennison. I found a few pictures of them online. A great deal of variety between the sites as what makes up the '18' weapons. One site had somewhere around 30 weapons listed!
Some wild looking weapons to be sure!
