Hi all! im currently drawing a full size model of a sword for my mother in law and i want to see how good it would be.
here's the measuments of the sword:

total lenght : approx. 43 inch

blade measuments and style : 33 inch long 2 inch wide comparable to the black knight of DSA in shape

pommel : J1 style of oakeshott

guard : type 11 oakeshott

handle lenght : 7 à 7 ½ inch

leather color : light brown

When you sy "for", do you mean "to be used by" or "to be used on" ;)

I had exactly the same reaction.... but happily Etienne is not intending on going postal with the mother in law... at least not until she is able to defend herself properly... is that what you mean Etienne?

What I'm trying to figure out is the point of the topic... I'm guessing what Etienne is asking is how such a sword would handle if it were real and not just a drawing, but maybe I'm just plain confused. Is the whole point to make a custom sword based on the drawing?

A sword of that description could handle drastically differently depending on the exact taper, thickness, harmony, and etc. You would be better off talking to whoever is going to make this about how you want it to handle, given the blade, hilt, and pommel types that you like.

Oh, for serious training I think the money and time would be better spent on a " Tinker " training longsword:

I have an Albion Liechtenauer and I'm very happy with it but the " Tinker " longsword is much less expensive and the one used by a friend of mine is holding up well against my Albion.

Now, I don't want to pour cold water on your enthusiasm and creativity but maybe you could still make this one you are planning as a sharp or collection piece ?

I know what your talking about jean but it is a request from her... it's not my sword after all and i expect a price of maximum 350$canadian plus the taxes of course :lol: but none the less a tinker would be a nice choice too!

it is more for training than displaying.

And colt the point of this topic is how good it would be in hypothesis for the esthetic and practical side.

Etienne - Drawing nice, though I am not any expert on swords. But, umm, not sure how smart it is to arm one's mother in law :-) Are you sure you know her reason for wanting to train? :-)

With all the sword that she owns one more sword or not it doesnt matter ;)

no seriously, she and i get along pretty well there is no animosity between us so why teasing her :lol:

i wanted to say that the overall cost for this project is 325$can (very cheap price for a good sword) and will be made by darksword armory. how much time do we have to wait for custom order from them?

I'd say get one that is very sharp and cuts cleanly. That will put her through less pain and be less likely to anger your wife

i forgot to say something... the blade will be more like the gothic sword and finally it will take approximately six months to recieve the sword (hand forged from scratch not that long i think).
