One of my most favorite movies is A Knights Tale. I really enjoy watching that movie for the clear reasons of the armour and the sword bashing armour and on and on.

I was wondering what everyone's favorite Armoured movies are. I really dont know any foregin films but would be interested to check some out if any on wouldn't mind sharing.

monty python's holy grail= arguably the greatest medieval movie ever made

kingdom of heaven= historically inaccurate but still great

i was also a fan of the mini series Merlin

The best full armor bashing movie?

Two that I enjoy:

1) Excalibur
2) The Messenger: not a great movie, but great armored combat and castle seige.

None are perfect, but my top three in order are:

1.) Excalibur - An oldie but a goodie
2.) Gladiator - Filled with inaccuracies, but had some of the most stiring battle scenes ever filmed.
3.) Monty Pythons Search for the Holy Grail - Its only a flesh wound !! :) Enough said.

Good "chain-mail" and story.
The Japanese edition is 500yen(about $5), but it is cut for 20 minutes.
So I bought an Original Italian edition with about $35.

This movie is about "Battle of Courtrai (Battle of the Golden Spurs)".
"Goedendag" based on a historical fact appears in this movie.

My favorite Armor movie is "Alatriste" with Viggo Mortenson. Excellent attention to historic accuracy (as far as I know) and to realistic sword fights. It's a foreign movie but is subtitled. My whole family loved it!

My two other favorites are :
1. "Brave Heart" Not very accurate but an entertaining movie.
2. " A knight's Tale"

I want to recommend "Alatriste" to all of you. Viggo Mortenson is an accomplished fencer- very good with a Rapier.

My youngest son and I both enjoyed Alatriste and it's a definite must-add to the collection.

Some of my favourites:

Kingdom of Heaven - The Directors Cut; a superior film to the orginal cut. It has plenty of the usual inaccuracies but Ridley Scott paints some very compelling pictures and I think it makes a reasonable stab at historical accuracy where it can. It has very good cast with some excellent performances, although I think Orlando Bloom is a little out of his depth; he tries hard though. Another thing which I like is that its one of the few medieval films that gives you the impression that knights were skilled and deadly warriors not just clumbsy thugs clanking about in armour.

Henry V - (both versions). The Kenneth Branagh vesion has a great atmosphere although the battle is a little silly. The Lawrence Olivier film has always been a favourite of mine, its a classic. Okay I know its got the silly knight mounting a horse via crane, but I just ignore that bit. :) The costumes and look of the film are excellent and put many modern films to shame, given that it was made in 1944 (many of the extras were AWOL British and US soldiers!). It really gives a good impresion of the colour and slendour of the medieval age, I can't stand this adsurd notion that because its Medieval everything has to be dirty and/or crudely made.

There was a movie, a few years ago, that was pretty boring as entertainment goes. I believe it was called the "Westlander", and it was about the age of King Arthur, specifically the main subject was Lancelot ( a hero from the West). The movie did a much better than average job of showing late Roman era style armor appropriate period gear paired to the believed origins of the legend, with medieval (later than migration era swords) armament. I rented and watched it twice strictly for appreciation of the fact that the armour and military action seemed so much more authentic to the period than in a film such as "Excalibur."

This movie is different from "Excalibur" or "A Knight's Tale "...
Arthur's knights were not able to find the Holy Grail... And they do plunder and killing each other...
I think that the real Medieval knight is played.
I feel that this poster symbolizes the contents of the movie...

Two flicks that I have favored are Henry V with Laurence Olivier (1944) and Joan of Arc (1948) with Ingrid Bergman. In spite of the idiotic scene where Henry is hoisted onto his horse, the armour appeared to fairly authentic. Although Bergman's harness was made by armorers at the Metropolitan, to me it appeared to be a wee bit "out of style"......perhaps by 15 years.

Must confess that I just recently rented both of these oldies just to view the armour and weapons.

5. The HBO series "Rome"
6. Elizabeth: the Golden Age
Just to name a few. I can probably think of more, but not now.

Prince Caspian had a great armored duel. I was not expecting to be so impressed. I second this choice.
