Hello
Here is my newest Kipchak style helmet by me
http://photofile.name/users/nieczar/2547324/82644971/
It's not exactly replica of oryginal stuff - just some variation about. The basic stuff is the helmet and the mask from Kuban River area .Present day the helmet is in Herman Historika (probobly for sure this is it) and the mask is in private colection somewhere.
Off course it's welded stuff ...I'm still waiting for raised helmet and mask - but I'm afraid the price could be to high for most of the customers ...maybe someday ...
Next "lichina" (east style masked helmet) will be done this month yet :)

Fantastic! This helmet is very cool. I love the satin finish...
I really like those masked helms of yours. If I had the funds I'd order me one. (:
Thanx a lot :)
to make masked helmet it's always pleasure for me :D

Very beautifull and I also like the soft finish. :D
Thank You :)
I prefer satin (silk) surface ...in my opinin bright - polish surface is the worst thing for masked helmet - we see everything around the mask like in the mirror but we don't see whole shape and all details of the mask

That is simply the strangest helm I have ever seen. Very unique! Probably one of your best so far, too.
You mention that it's welded, but I fail to see any weld lines. Where are they supposed to be? If it truly is welded, you have a lot of talent.

thank You :)
this design of the helmet was popular between sec. half of 12th. cen. to the end of 14th. cen. ....and sometimes even more
it was very specific for Kipchak (Cuman,Polovcy) - turkish nomads from Easten Europe (espessialy from some part of Ukraine - Kara Kalpak / Black Huts / Chernye Klobuki )....we know 3 piramidial helmets from artefacts and few from stone sculptor - "baba"
weld lines are invisible outside ...but everything is clear when we look inside :)

Beautiful. The ears gives it a nice touch :)
thanx :)
the ears are of course by archeological sources ,see below
this detail was popular only in kipchak design of the mask in 12-14th. cen. ...in later periods there's no ears any more ....I mean we don't know any sources for this

Is the chin ring supposed to attach to a chain?
M.
M.
have you ever made any Sassanid/Parthian mask/helmets?
M.Eversberg II
the chin ring is probobly for to raise mask up - like in klappenvisier ....and attached to the pike "up side down" ...see oryginal found from Lipovec (Ukraine)
John
..I 'm afraid I don't know eny exemple of this kind of the helmet from any sources :( ....maybe You have something about it ?
...off course it'll be great to do something like this in the future :)
