Thanks for those pictures Bruno, I had no idea so many were around in such good condition.

As regards the authenticity of the piece shown I can't say any more than I have.

Specifically to Bruno, as you have either held or come very close to this shield can you tell us if the edge is dished and how thick it is?

Tod

Tod (great stuff eheh), no, i have seen just the better pics on the Czerny website.

Another member of armsandarmourfroum, Mr Paggiarino is a collector and the author of a couple of very good armor books, thinks that such shield is dubious and ha hinted at such an opinion being held by other collectors.

Hints, suspects, coming from informed collectors who have developed at their expenses a critical eye: when figures in the thousands euros range are in question such eye is indispensble.

I would contact the Luzern museum in order to see the pieces or get some better pics of undisputed (or less disputed) originals.

What a wonderful site - I've never seen that many Rotelle in one place!

Are there any stats (i.e. weight, diameter, thickness, etc.)?

What a fantastic piece.

Tod: This image from that collection strongly suggests a sloping or slightly concave outer edge. Note the edge reflection between10 and 12 o'clock. The second image will be useful for folks wondering about appropriate plank width.

Could it be the the wood/ply layers are different sizes?
