Hello everybody.
I want to share with you the photos of my newest replica. ;-) It's the bascinet with houndgugel visor. The original helm can be seen in Armoury of Wawel Castle in Kraków, Poland.

Few words about the replica:
1) Both the basinet and the visor have been raised in one piece of spring steel (the helmet will be used in very intesive fighting and in jousting).
2) The basinet - I started with 2,5mm steel. The ready bowl has about 2,3mm at the top and about 1mm at the edges (at the back is a bit more).
3) The visor - I started with 2mm steel. The thickness of steel in the visor varies depending of the point.
4) Together with the owner of helmet I decided not to add this little plate at the top of the helmet (mostly because of the purpose of helmet - very intensive fighting).

Impressive work as usual. :cool:

I have a bascinet from Valentine armoury and I do notice that the view from inside with the visor down seems very restricted and the theory that these were often used without the visor when fighting on foot.

The pins holding the visor on mine is of a design where removing the visor is easy.

Gavin, I'm a groupie already..in fact if Gracjana wasn't married to him, i'd marry him my self :eek: And ask Patrick Barta to be my mistress :lol: But seriously, what ever period, beautiful work as always from Greg.

Jean - this bascinet was made for fighting on horse. And in the original helm there isn't any pin.
The difference to the original helm is the lack of this little plate on the top of bowl. Original helm has it and "my" replica hasn't.

In fact they are very similar, but not identical. ;)
If I see well, you have in your profile pic a photo of bascinet from Ruestkamer, Vienna. Correct me if I am wrong, please.

But if it is like I've written then there are few differences, the main in my opinion are:
1) eye-slots
2) the visor in Vienna helmet settles lower, so as the bottom line of the visor is a bit lower than bottom edge of bascinet and the visor is arranged at a small angle regarding to the lower edge of bascinet.
In helmet from Wawel and in my replica the bottom edge of bascinet and lower line of visor make one line.

I hope it is understandable... If someone is interested I can attach here photos of both original helmets for comparison. :)

:lol: Patrik - you are quick! Yes, I have started to make pattern-welded stuff by my own. Now there will be two options : blades made by me or by Robert Kapusta. I wanted to make another topic about this today, but it's possible I will be too tired... There are few other new things I would like to share with you all, but I didn't manage yet to put them on the web site.
