People in the New England area over the holiday weekend may find this of interest:
Presentation on Viking sword fabrication at Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester, MA
On November 29, Lee A. Jones and Jeffrey L. Pringle will give a presentation on the fabrication of blade and hilt components of swords in the Viking age. In preparation for a special exhibit of Viking-age weapons that will open at Higgins Armory Museum in 2010, Mr. Pringle is fabricating replacement hilt components for a Viking-age sword. In the process of making the replica components, many interesting facts have come to light about the hilt construction and blade construction of the Viking-age original. Dr. Jones and Mr. Pringle will present on what they have found, and show examples from historic swords, and from the modern work-in-progress.
The presentation immediately follows the regularly-scheduled 2PM Viking weapons and combat demonstration in the museum's auditorium and will begin at about 2:30 on Saturday, November 29. Admission to demonstrations and presentations is free with regular museum admission. For directions to the museum, and for information about other events at the museum that day, please see the museum's web site:

<sigh> I'm going out of town for the Holiday and will miss this.
I hope it goes well enough to get repeated.
Cheers,
