Ed, thanks for the compliment. Once I get the cuisses and greaves I'll move that shield, since it's a little out of place with full plate armor ;) It just kind of looks funny with no legs, and the straps on the shield hold that sword there nicely.

Christopher, nice hauberk! I have one in progress too. You can see a little of it underneath my breastplate. I havn't done the arms on it yet and I'm a little unsure how the armpits are going to work. I've found one tutorial site on different patterns here : http://www.modaruniversity.org/Blackmaille27.htm but the armpit one kinda confused me. Any tips or pointers you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

*Edit* I've just re-visited the site I posted and pulled out my hauberk to work on for the first time in a couple of months, and I think I've got it figured out. The first image showing ring direction must be the hauberk and not the arm / armpit detail. That's what had me confused. :confused:

The entire time, from even before I bought the metal wire I had worries about the arm pit area. I looked every where online and asked all over www.theringlord.org/forum << is a great mail community.

I started making my mail, and once I got to the arm pit area, I simply ran the rows to meet each other. There was an area where the row did not exactly line up (As in 2 rows needed to be brought together) It was not difficult as I put a couple rings in place to hold the rows together and in place.

All in all atleast in my opinion The arm pit area of mail is an area that needs no worrying^^

Jeff, your arms and harness are they from the merc's armourer? It looks so sweet especially all together, I'm likely to buy a set of armour from them piece by piece, and I really like those pauldrons.

Christopher, yep, the arms and cuirass are from Merc Tailor. The pauldrons are from Steel Mastery in the Ukraine but Merc Tailor has something almost identical.....except the etching. The thing I like most about Merc Tailors work, and I would recommend looking for whomever you buy your armor from, is the slotted rivets....makes movement as free and fluid as you can get while being encased in a big hunk of plate steel.

Thanks for your reply on the chain maille. I think before I start the sleeve I will count the number of rings in the arm opening and make the arm to match. One last question before I derail this thread too badly...

In my arm opening at the bottom (armpit) it is squared off...as in, the rings go straight across. Since the sleeve itself is naturally going to be round, would you advise adding some more rings to make the opening round or will it come together as is if I use the correct amount of rings? The reason I ask is that I would like to keep the opening as large as possible for easy dressing and undressing....and I will taper the sleeve a bit as it nears my forearm and wrist so as to not be overly baggy.

Oh, I almost forgot! That (from the pic, looks like) suede surcoat... cool, where'd you get it? Also are those the suede Beowulf pants from MRL? I've been very interested in those.
Your kit is cool!....kind of a day to day wear for someone travelling long distances on dangerous roads. Looks comfortable as well as offering protection.

I just received my new harness based on the Richard Beauchamp funeral effigy in Beauchamp Chapel of Saint Mary's Church in Warwick. It was created by Éric Dubé of Armurerie du Duche in Quebec. Yes, that is a custom 'Baron' by Christian Fletcher. I commissioned it before the Warwick harness. I plan to get a more period one in the future. While it is not entirely accurate for the harness, it does look and feel great, and I couldn't see taking a picture without a sword.

Im in the SCA / Killing Orc society.

My kits perfect for both. mixed historicaly and a bit of fantasy.
Its Aluminum so its light when i move and it covers me fully for when i fight or ride.

what do you guys think?
