A Short Contest

Here are a few photos of one of the many new sword blades currently in development - this one a heretofore "unannounced" NextGen project: The Vigil.

Like the Munich and Oakeshott blades, this one is *very close* to a certain sword.

The first person to correctly guess the identity of the original sword (and post it here) wins an Albion baseball cap!

Hey Howy, I'd guess it's the type X double fullered in the British Museum that Patrick Kelly had Vince Evans do a repro on in the myArmoury reviews page. Looks great regardless!

Never mind - I overlooked the part about it's being close to an original sword. But it does look a lot like the original
single-fullered sword in Records (the Philip IV type XIV) that inspired the Albion Sovereign

Unfortunately, I don't have Records in front of me. It also reminds me of another type XIV in that book, the double -fullered one with a drawing with extensive measurements and a weight of over 2kg (boat anchor!). I think it has a type I1 pommel. But I can't remember the "records" number.

The river witham sword is one of my absolute favorites....and in case there's a prize for clarification....It's X.15 in records ;)

Hi Howard,

I am not a 'sword' man but , I would suggest that it is a copy of a sword in the Royal Armouries ? ca. 1300 +/- 20 years. I have admired the R.A. example many times, it is exquisite. especially with that little swell before the quillon. Typology I think is a type XIV ? Down curved quillons with a facetted pommel ? There is an almost identical sword in the Cleveland Museum too.
It is a beautiful blade, and if it is the sword that I am thinking of, it will be an absolute stunner ! :)

Hey David!

I don't have a projected release date at this point. The blade is done, but has to be heat-treated and ground, and then sent to Peter for approval and carving of the hilt waxes. Peter has a long list of projects and very little available time.

Once the hilt components are complete, we will make a formal announcement and open it up for orders.

Obviously, we'll keep you posted!
