Do you have any idea of how many piggy banks would have to be broken in order to purchase this property?

Is there one of those realtor's descriptions? You know: Newly refurbished moat, South facing portcullis, Excellent crenellations, Dungeon reequipped in 1492, stuff like that?

Well, I am in the market for a new fortress of solitude... ;)

(I just hope there aren't any ghosts in the dungeons. Those are a pain to get rid of.)

I have contacted a Ms. Lambert, who is in charge of the sale. I am awaiting my reply.

It's nowhere near as expensive as I thought it would be. Especially with the historical value, the large area, the extra buildings and being only 40km from Brussels. That's Lot 1, upon which sits the Castle, the other two sections are also good value.

Let's see what Ms. Lambert says. I'm particularly interested in why the 91 year old tenant wants to move, and if there are any legal restrictions put on the place. Maybe there is ghosts...

It is for sale because the ' tennant' has deceased.
The castle was acquired by a government foundation in return for his lease.
It was restored and partly open for the public.

The grounds are ASTONISHING and the castle is a reference for archeologists. A good personal friend lives near and we studied the retractable bridge with pit to understand a digging site.

The 'snag' is that it is a national monument and MUST be maintained to the highest and historically responsible standards which is ruled by a commission.
It is however wallonia so rubbing shoulders with the members opens doors.

It would be a whole lot cheaper if it would have been a bit further from Bruxelles but it still is a steal for the unique property it is. It is located near a very quite small but charming village in a BEAUTIFULL old forested region.

I am familiar with the region and there are more stunning properties there albeit not like THIS one. I will go and buy something there to restore if I ever hit a succesfull venture. My archeologists friends will join in the sceme.
In fact we have a 9th century donjon in the eye.
Most of these projects are likely to be given large government and ec grants for restoration. The big problem is the huge cost of maintenance. One needs either an stream of income or exploit the castle for the public.

Well, it is fun to dream is it not?!
Meanwhile I have nothing to complain about living in/from a 200 year old river cottage in the heart land of andalucia. I will just have to buy those lottery tickets :lol:
