oooh! Craig that looks so cool, I cant buy anything for a while but I must know how much is it and can you blue the fittings?
I am totally buying this, already got one on hold for me. Love the new dagger!
Sorry I added the price above. Forgot that bit :)
Chase, yes you could get the parts blued but I would not be able to ship that right away as I can with the pictured dagger.
Best

Oh very nice! I'm totally going to order at least the targe by the end of the month and if I get my current project done before month's end I'll be ordering both the targe AND the new dagger. REALLY like the look of this one Craig.
That dagger looks really fine. Oh, why oh why to you have to tempt me ....... maybe someone should write a prayer somewhat like this: " Lord shield my eyes from all that is sharp and shiny, bind my eyes to the number of my creditcard, still my fingers and stop me from e-maiing in an order ........ :( :( :( .
O.K. , sure that's going to work ......... I give up send me the dagger ...... sigh.
Will confirm by e-mail. ( I'm doomed to sword hell or heaven depending on point of view ).
On a serious note: Really early daggers like this are really not seen often.

Good on you Jean! I hope folks keep making these monthly specials worthwhile for the boys at A&A so they keep having them! :) I'm certainly going to do my part this month. :)
Darn fine lookin' dagger Craig. Wish I had thought of that... ;)
This dagger is based on a custom project that Craig just completed for me. It feels great in the hand, by the way (sorry, Jean). I saw this type of dagger in David Nicolle's Arms and Armor of the Crusading Era 1050-1350: Western Europe and the Crusader States. Nicolle mentioned that the drawing he included in the book was based on a dagger once owned by Ewart Oakeshott. Hmmm, who better to replicate this than the folks that run the Oakeshott Institute! The dagger was no longer in the collection (it left many years ago), but Craig was able to track down the Leeds example. I certainly appreciate all of his hard work, and look forward to more rewarding projects!
If I get a chance to take some pics, I'll start a new thread for ya!

I bought the Aunlaz today, just couldn't resist, that makes two months in a row that I bought an A&A piece either as the highlight or a new item. Truth be told, I don't know if I mind if I do this every month!
Well Mike you are an achiever!

Oh, I'm powerless to resist that dagger.
My order sent via e-mail, Craig. :D

Hi Craig, that is a very nice looking dagger, fortunately I am not tempted by the dagger and as for the targe, well I have your English Buckler which I like a whole lot and so does Gayle.
For the next few months Craig, could you take a look in your listings of things I've bought (that is if you have such a list) and put items on special that I already have please!
By the way Craig, the "Custom Detail and Buffing" of Gayle's German Rapier is astonishingly beautiful far beyond expectations! She LOVES her German Rapier and matching dagger so much, as you know, it's her favorite of the production rapiers.
It's so awesome to be married almost 17 years to a woman who loves her brand new sword which she got just this month of February as much as any of "Us" loves that special or one of those special swords in our collection!
In fact, I was late getting home the day it arrived, I got home at 7:10 and she could not wait any longer than until 6:30 before she broke down to her compulsions to cut and tear open that box and she was still holding the German Rapier when I got home!
She's always said that "We" have a superb hobby and now she knows that even more! I bet she would like this dagger!
Which is exactly why I went into relating this story in a brief synopsis of her absolute pleasure and love for the rapier I bought her as a Christmas gift!
Thank You Craig for such a splendid rapier for Gayle and now I am going to have to show her this dagger.
Gee, thanks a whole bunch buddy!
Bob
PS Gayle has a special attraction for "Daggers"!

I got mine last night. I was at first taken aback by how much smaller it was than my initial impressions led me to believe. It almost comes off as "dainty". But I think that is more to do with the fact that many replicas perhaps overbuild their daggers, combined with the pics not having any objects to provide a scale comparision. As I looked through some texts on sizes, I realized this is pretty spot on with size. I hope this does not come accross as a complaint, but merely my personal misinterpretation of its apparent size from photos and not handling that many true daggers in the past. Its very nice though, and the guard/grip is very attractive. It did have to grow on my a bit after seeing it last night I will admit, but I like it. I will try to get some photos of it in hand tonight to give some idea of scale.
Glad you like it Mike.
In actuality I added a touch of length compared to the original. The grip should be a bit shorter but I know people would have had some issues if it was any tighter than it is.
I will also try to add a picture with some scale in it as well to give people perspective.
Best
Craig

Yeah, I can see that. One idea I had was the perhaps the pommel guard could be curved backwards even more, in the poast linker above, there were some daggers that had that characteristic. As it is, there are likely some modern hands that would have trouble getting a solid grip on it. I have smaller hands, and it fit me fine, but not by much.
Here is a quick photo... the other ones were too large to load
ah darn you Craig!! that is an awesome knife. hmmmmm now if i can just hide the $180 from my wife.... ;) a great piece indeed

Nice pic but maybe more of a " handshake " or sabre grip would make it more comfortable ?
Also the ice pic grip seems tom have been popular with most daggers rather than the forward grip. ( At least that is my impression but I could be wrong and have nothing specific to quote as evidence ! ).
Size wise, the statistics on the blade say that it's 9" long: So it isn't a large dagger or a shortsword sized piece and that is what I was and am expecting. That doesn't mean that once in hand it might not seem smaller than in pics without context for estimating scale.
