Just thought I'd share this photo with you that I found on line and get your views and input. Its from a relief at the Doge's palace, Venice. The 'knight' seems to be fighting in the "Kolbenturnier" as he is holding the correct type of club-sword. He is wearing an 'older' style of mail-gloves and mail hauberk over which I assume is a studded leather breastplate ?
His gorget, I guess, is also leather ?...but notice he has a frilled-lace collar underneath.....(Just 'cause your fighting in a Tournament does'nt mean you have to go casual !)
And then there's the helm-crest....... ( Wagner would be so pleased ! :D )

Other than the little rosettes not being in neat lines, the breastplate bears a very striking resemblance to a few of the photos I found of anima breastplates.

Particularly this one: http://swordmaiden.com/wp-content/uploads/eichlinghussar.jpg, which the site (http://swordmaiden.com/armor/eichling/) says is a Hungarian style Hussar breastplate from the late 16th.

I have no idea on the gorget, though, but I think the lace collar might be part of the gorget, rather than worn underneath. I've only seen that on reproductions, though, and have no idea about any historical basis for the practice.
