Hello!
I'm new here, but I have a question to everybody ;)
I'm in terrible need... Can you help me with getting a bibliography of papers of ANY archaeological XVth cent. sword or messer find in europe?
If you would help, please post the paper title, and in which magazine i can find it ;)
Great thanks
cheers
Matt
Hello, and welcome to the forums!
I don't know if you would consider them a bibliography, but as a starting point you might want to check out the "Features" page on this site, especially the articles on different sword typologies. They all have pictures and some information about some examples, and maybe if you find some you are particularly interested in, you can narrow your search by looking for more information on those specific examples.
Good luck in your search!
Max

Hello,
and thanks for the warm welcome ;)
Your idea is great ;) Though I need more scientific informations about swords (in general cutting weapons). As an archaeologist I'm totally supportive to such articles like those in "Features" page. But those informations, are a bit general, if you know what I mean.
I'm asking such questions, because it is hard to find such informations in Poland. Of course I have a lots of articles, but maybe anyone from other European countries have something Ive missed.
I'm trying to get my view on xvth century edged weapons the most complex as possible ;)
cheers
Maciej,
Let me also say welcome to myArmoury.com. :) Our articles are indeed general (by design, actually), but the Source sections in them may help you.
There are a number of articles on 15th century English swords found in the Dordogne River (the Castillion Find), including several by Oakeshott. One is in this book. Other are in various Park Lane Arms Fair Catalogues (numbers 1 and 10, I believe).

Maciej,
No problem. We don't have any articles on maces, though we have a number of reviews of modern recreations.
Most high-quality books on arms and armour address maces, though impact weapons are often not covered in the same depth as edged weapons.
Hi Maciej!
When you say it is difficult to find Polish resources, you mean you've managed fo find what books/articles?
Cheers
Mick

Maciej,
I have a book titled, Early Medieval Swords From Central And Eastern Europe: Dilemmas of an archeologist and a student of arms , by Lech Marek. I think this book was published in Poland so you should be able to find a copy. If not ,here a websit WWW.WUWR.Com.PL for this book.
Good luck
