What grip design/materials would be historically appropriate for an English falchion of ca. 1325? Plain wood? Leather over wood? Leather over cord-wrapped wood? Leather thong over wood? I'm thinking about polishing up my Windlass Thorpe falchion replica and giving it an historically accurate grip treatment. I love the look of the thin oxblood leather over cord I'm seeing more of these days, but don't know if it'd be appropriate for this weapon/era. Any thoughts/references? Thanks!
The simple answer is yes. Any of the treatments you describe would be accuarate.
Much obliged, Russ!
