After reading the guidelines in the marketplace-forum, I think this should be posted here.
I am currently on the search for two new parts for my armour. I am fighting reenactement (1397-1412) in Norway, live steel etc. As a result of this, I have high demands for my armour. My legs, arms and helmet is from Bestarmour, and I absolutely love it. The legs have been in use every week the last 4 years, and they still do their thing. (I am telling you all this jibberish so you get a sence of what I am looking for. My experiences with armouronline (old KK art), for example, is poor. Hinges breaking and so on. So I would like to know if you have hands-on-(fighting)experience on the pieces you recomend. ;)
I am looking for a pair of hourglass gauntlets, with brass-edging (maybe without the engravings, to reduce price). I do not like the shell-type fingers, but prefer bigger pieces riveted to a leather-strip, sewn to the glove. something like this: [ Linked Image ]
The most important part is durability. Fingers riveted together is bound to break, and considering the amount of blows I recieve to my hands, I need some solid good gauntlets.
Second, I am looking for a Churburg type 13 breastplate.
I dont like the edition that steel-mastery got, the bend from neck to behind the back is to steep, I would like it to be a bit more curvy and nice. I want a safe and good edition. I consider this one deadly, due to the sharp edge on the back.: [ Linked Image ]
I am willing to pay about ~1000 USD for both pieces, but I dont have the time to wait one year before production starts.
Does anybody have some tips on armourers that could fulfill all my dreams and wishes?
Best wishes from
Christoffer

well for the churburg 13 breastplate go with Mr.William Hurt.
http://www.ageofarmour.com/instock/breastplate.html
I would go with him for one of these as I already own one by him. it was not made for me so I was a little reluctant ordering it-well I recieved it and it fit like a glove. truly love it-and it can be adjusted to a certain degree. I don't fight yet but I do drills and such in it and it works and functions phenominally. his customer service A+ too.
BTW-the churburg 13 you posted is not dangerous. you'd be surprised just how "rounded" that edge actually is. edges of armour are never sharp especially on high quality stuff like Mr.Fuller's
for the gauntlets... well let's see...I would suggest Jiri Klepac
http://www.armour.cz/gallery.htm
he is the one who you posted the gauntlet pics of already. I have heard nothing but good things about him. I can recomend many many armourers for hourglass gauntlets, but I don;t really know about the waiting time.
also Jeff Wasson http://www.wassonartistry.com/armor.php?w=gauntlets
hope this helps. if you need some more just let me know-I just don't know about their waiting times.

Thank you!
I already sent a e-mail to Jiri, but he hasnt answered yet. His work seem really nice, so I am looking forward to his answer. I have already eaten some dust, and understand that some waiting-time is bound to be. As long as I get the pieces before next season (spring-summer), I'll be just happy.
This weekend I am going to Sweden for a medieval festival in Kunghälle, and SPQR.se, a reseller for getdressedforbattle is comming there. I asked them to bring a pair of gauntlets for me to look at. Anybody who own a pair of these? They also sell a Churbug-type plate, I hope they bring it, so I can inspect it with my delicate eyes and beaten up hands.
I'll let you all know how the developement goes!
Best wishes

We have a full review of Jiri's gauntlets here: http://www.myArmoury.com/review_jk_gaunthg.html
Lewis Moore makes really nice looking gauntlets with amazingly quick delivery times (often a month or less). They are not a total custom fit and they are perhaps just a bit bulkier than many historic examples, but they articulate nicely and look nice.
Bill Grandy reviewed his: http://www.myArmoury.com/review_lm_gaunthg.html
I was inspired enough to buy my own pair: http://www.myArmoury.com/chad_othr_lm_gaunthg.html?1

I'm sorry to say that I've nothing of particular interest to add to this thread, but since Chad mentioned Lewis Moore above, I must ask you if he's either have a change of e-mail address or something like that?
You see, I contacted him in december last years and was just about to place a final order for a pair of gauntlets when he suddenly stopped answering my mail. I even wrote to him just a few months ago again, and still no reply.
Does anyone know what has happened to mr. Lewis, or is it just my e-mailing that's going awry?
Thank you,
E. Andersson

Have you checked his website for contact info? http://members.aol.com/knightsarmoury/knightsarmoury.htm
Chad,
I take it that you are referring to (CelticWarriors@aol.com)?
Yes, that is the mail adress I used.

No one has heard from Knights Armory in many months; the owners got really sick at the beginning of the year and have dropped off the radar since then.
I had talked to Clay around x-mas time about two pairs of gauntlets that were never made because of the illness; no money was sent so nothing lost.
I have a pair of his Wisby gauntlets and they are awesome; I hope they come back to armoring.

Ah, thank you James for confirming this.

Thank you Merv, I'll drop off a mail, and we'll see if he has the time to do it.
I just got back from Sweden, and I had a sneak peak on the gauntlets from SPQR/GDFB. I'm sorry to say that I didn't like them. The edge between the thumb and index finger was sharp, in addition to begin sticking too far out, not letting me getting a good grip around the sword.
I am eagerly awaiting an email from the guys at www.lorifactor.pl, and so well se what happens there.
I will keep you informed about my choses, when they are ready.
Best wishes

I don't know a great deal about their quality, but Steel Mastery (http://steel-mastery.com/) produces a Churburg-style breastplate and hourglass gauntlets. They look maybe a little "off" in some of their proportions/shapes.

Hy Chad, as already posted in the first thread he mentioned that he does not like the steep apearance of the steel mastery piece.
What does the thread "owner" think of this?

You're correct about the breastplate, though I wonder if they'd be willing to tweak the design if he asked them to. He didn't mention hating their gauntlets, so I think I'm okay there. :) :)

To be honest, I doubt that anybody could like those ;).
They are too flared at the cuff. And they say that they to metal fingers only if personally fitted.
Felix; Thank you for your sharp remark, I agree about the gauntlets. They just seem to strange ;)
I am currently in contact with Tomala, and as far as I can se, this is the best option for me. His churburg-plate is nice, and considering the amout of pieces he has produced, his pride in his work and the price, I think this is what I am going for.
Gauntlets on the other hand, I am eagerly awaiting answer from the guys at lorifactor!

Hei Christoffer
You could always ask Russell Thomas about a quote for a pair of gauntlets. His prices are "norwegian"(and the product-quality is hard to beat! ), but if you order from abroad you always run the risk of raising the price of the order because of the badguys at the customs... The amount of import tax does depend on the initial price though(as I am quite sure you already know...just saying ;) ), so if you get them dirt cheap from abroad that might be the best option if you are on a budget. Ah well, 'nough rambling from me. Happy hunting!

Hello Christoffer, did you already get an answer from Tomala?
Yes, I did! I have as a matter of fact JUST transfered the advance for production of a breastplate, and he said something about production starting in febuary. His work seems pretty good, and he takes custom orders, so I assume he delivers nice products. I will surely post a little review here when the breastplate arrives.
I have allso sent an email to Russel Thomas asking about gauntlets, but I guess he is on holliday, as Norway has been a little shy on the sun.
