Hi,
I am about to commission a full 16th-century harness with burgonet, peascod cuirass, etc. Assuming I can afford finger gauntlets if I want, from a historical perspective would mitten or finger gauntlets have been preferred and by whom? I have my own opinions, but I am interested in gathering a little more feedback before placing my order.
Thanks!
I have used mitten's for many years and if I had my druthers, I'd go with the finger gauntlets.
They look great and feel natural.

depends though. do you play in a group that is rough on fingers? I have both and if I were to really go to a medieval melee I'd wear the mittens.... I feel my fingers take little to no side impact which cannot be said for my fingers. That said most 16th century gaunts I have seen seem to be fingered. I am working on a set of 14th century fingered ones so I do not lack that much confidence in them...

You have a point there. I have never used finger gauntlets in melees and I can see your reasoning.
Fighting with a Bastard sword in individual combat I've never really worried too much about my hand but in mass, that could change rapidly when you can have multiple strikes from multiple angles.
